Haha Shui Yong...I think I also suffering from the same syndrome as you...you think of any antidote must tell me hor...lol...
Anyway, in today's copy of the Straits Times, there is this articles about obesity. I find it half econs and half GP related, so those interested can go take a look. Mainly, these are the points:
- Farm policies such as Government agricultural subsidies in the US as well as the European Union have been damaging ppl's health over the past few decades.
- This was pointed out by obseity expert Professor Philip James, chairman of the International Obesity Taskforce, during the 10th International Congress on Obseity in Sydney.
-
Overproduction of oils, sugars and fats due to subsisdies to protect the farming industry revenues is the main contributing factor (econs--> trade/protectionism)
- Small countries reliant on trade are forced to accept lower quality products for fear of losing trade priviledges. (econs --> trade)
For instance, the Pacific Islands had tried to ban the import of mutton flaps into the country to combat obesity, but was forced to do so eventually due to fear of losing trade.- Dietary supplements to help reduce fat may not help.
Because:
Human brain high energy needs means that one needs to consume energy-dense foods containing high levels of fats, starch and sugar.
However, we consume high levels of processed food nowadays, which take away the micro-nutrients that our body needs. Hence, our mind thinks that we are in a situation of a famine, and stores fat in the upper body to get ready for the "famine".
Hope it is useful to all. Haha. Dun be stressed out!!! And keep posting!!!
