Haha Andie is right....i think i am also quite addicted to this blog...seem to have to pen down my thoughts everyday before i start revision proper...anyway...today's one is more for interest only...
I remembered the last movie I watched in a theatre was "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". That was with some of our classmates...hui min, mel , eekent to name a few...
Anyway...just food for thought...anyone of you believe it such things?
It actually came out as an article in the Sunday Times (pg 10). No, not the movie...but a real case of an exorcism going on in Singapore.
Excerpts of the article...i find it interesting...but a bit spooky...
Each Religion has its own "rules" of performing the exorcism...but it all starts with a lengthy process...
According to Father William Goh, a team of spiritual leaders must first come to a consensus that the person is indeed possessed, and not a case of suffering from any form of illness. This includes sending the patient to a psyhiatrist for evaluation. Only then, with permission from the leading authority of that particular religion(for eg, the bishop in the case of a catholic), can the appointed priest carry out the process.
Different religions believe in different methods of "bringing the spirit out of the body".
Catholics believe that it requires commands in the name of the lord to expel these evil demons from one's body. They believe that the spirit within the body is of evil descent, so they will have to chant prayers to protect themselves as well as other members before they perform the ritual.
Buddhists, on the other hand, feel that the spirits may be evil or good. So the ritual is carried out in such a way that it is to PERSUADE the spirit out of the body. It is to achieve a win-win situation for both the "souless" spirit and the patient.
Taoist meanwhile, use a variety of chanting, movements and prayers to "fight" with the evil spirits. But according to vice-president of the Taoist Federation (Singapore), Master Tan Kok Hian, they too subscribe to the fact that there are good and evil spirits.
Muslims generally do not believe in such possessions.
This issue came into light because of a victim suing the Novena Church for the "side-effects" of exorcism that was performed on her. Mdm Amutha Valli, claimed that she had never cosented to the ritual being performed on her.
Nevertheless, Psychiatrist Brian Yeo mentioned that some cases maybe more of a mental disorder than a result of being possessed. It may be due to stress or other external factors which result in unusual behavior....
Anyway...take care...this is just for info and interest only...dun use it in GP!! :P
