GP...GP...GP...haha
Aiya...I am still a noob when it comes to doing such a post...how to post the GP things at the different sections....and edit the size of the font...haha. I think kenneth and shui yong better help me save my blushes...
Anyway, if you all have read today's edition of the Straits Times, I think it is important to note what the prime minister has said to the 7000 teachers at the Teachers' Day Rally last night. It was held at the Singapore Expo.
Just some excerpts from the article...
The prime minister emphasized that:
1. No child will be deprived of education just because he/she cannot afford it. Minimum is to clear secondary school education. He listed several schemes such as Opportunity Fund,as well as Edusave as the few schemes in place. Some students have made used of these funds to subscribe to the Sunday Times to keep themselves updated.
2. He wants to reduce the percentage of drop outs from the current 3%, to 1.5% within the next 5 years.
This effort will be made possible by the setting up of more specialised institutions such as NORTHLIGHT SCHOOL, which caters to those who cannot pass their PSLE. This school emphasizes more on hands-on learning, like teaching Mathematics through sales. The Normal (Technical) stream cirriculum is also being refined to help the students be more well equiped as they go on to ITE.
Senior Parlimentary Secretary MASAGOS ZULKIFLI will be in charge of achieveing the goal in 5 years.
3. More support for students with special needs.
Eg: Visual Handicaps, Hearing-impaired..etc...
4. Schools should focus more on grooming leaders
He citied examples from Malaysia (Kuala Kangsar), Britain (Eton, Harrow) and Australia (Geelong and Melbourne), which emphasize not only on academic, but also character and leadership development.
Schools here should be non-elitist, open, and inclusive. These means to take in ppl from different races, have a more holistic education, and allow students to explore new ways.
Well, thats all for GP from me today...hope its useful, especially for education. :)
