Hi.
Maybe what I am going to say in this entry sounds abit cliche, but I will still say it anyway...
Mr Lim Kim Thye told my former class (29/05) and I that there was once a chemistry rep in the year 2001/2002. His chemistry was the lousiest in the class. And his classmates sabo-ed him by voting him as the chem rep. As you know, reps supposed to perform up to the mark...and initially, this rep didn (actually i didn also). But he perservered on. The class was very split up, and no one really aided him in his chemistry or other weak students. This chem rep then issued an "ultimatum" :
"If I can top the class for the promo exams in chemistry, you must all help each other when the other party is in need. If i do not top, then u can treat me as thrash, and I will treat u all to lunch at Marche'."It was a bet that was seemingly too big to resist. After all, everyone thought, there is no way that that chem rep can ever top the class. Or so they thought...
The chem rep worked very hard...extremely hard. And when they got back the promo results, even the smartest ppl in class could barely muster a "B" grade. But the chemistry teacher said, "I would like to commend on my chem rep. He put in much more effort than you all, and got an "A". "
The whole class was astounded. The chem rep then took over the stand. He told the class:
Now that i have won the bet, you must fulfill the promise u made.
Owing to this incident, the class suddenly became united. Everyone admired the fighting spirit that the chem rep had, as well as his willingness to help. Soon, everyone was helping each other, lending support to each other. Whenever there were class outings, the chem rep made sure that all, if not most turned up. This class, which was tipped to be one of the lousier classes, ended up topping almost every subject during the prelims, and subsequently, the A levels.
Why did i bring up this story? It is not to say that I being the chem rep will be that fantastic, or that I am going to emulate him...
Our class is now in the same predicament as his class. But given the chance, they became united, and because everyone pooled in to help, the class was able to succeed.
I believe that we need to be very united as a class now. It is not only for social reasons, but you will be amazed, when you form a strong bond with ur classmates, seating in the same hall and taking the same paper, it feels as though you are being supported by all of them. I dun know how to use words to describe...but it is true. I dun care if the story Mr Lim told me was bull shit, but there in lies the important lesson:
We should be united, only then can we succeed. Many ppl in our class will like to see 18 be more united, so lets just run the final lap together, and may that bring us to even greater heights.
PS: Sorry if i offended anyone or what, but i feel that we should "cherish" each other more..... especially those who have taken pains to try to bond the class.
